The Destiny 2 unvaulting timeline now has a clearer development outline, but Bungie has not announced a firm release date for the returning content. Its October 29 community update explains the restoration work and distinguishes high-level progress bars from release roadmaps.
In Bungie’s original Q&A, Head of Product Josh Deane describes a project still in pre-production. That is a more limited commitment than a dated calendar of playable updates.
What Bungie is targeting first
The first pass targets the Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris and Warmind campaigns, their associated strikes and raids, and Menagerie with reprised rewards. Bungie says the pass will be available to all players.
How long could unvaulting take?
Bungie expects the proof-of-work stage to run until roughly January or February 2027, followed by about 12 months of full production to complete porting. These are development estimates, not a promise that everything returns together on a particular day.
For returning players, the practical distinction is simple: an outline of work tells you what the team is attempting; a launch announcement tells you when you can play it. This update supplies the former.
What remains uncertain
Free-roam destinations and seasonal activities are among the stretch goals. Seasonal story missions and an updated New Light experience currently have no path to return. Bungie also expects February progress updates for its Destiny 2 celebration and Destiny Legacy efforts; neither is a confirmed launch date.
That makes this a useful checkpoint, but a poor basis for assuming that a favourite activity is coming back immediately. Check which group an activity falls into before treating a broad restoration headline as a commitment.
