Square Enix has acknowledged that the Steam installer for NieR: Automata requests more space than intended after its November 6 update in Japan. GamesRadar reported seeing a requirement of 366.56 GB when it tried reinstalling. That was the space the installer requested in that test. It does not establish how much data Steam transfers for every player.
How to use the publisher’s workaround
For a base-game installation, open the game’s Properties in the Steam library, choose DLC and clear each DLC checkbox. Square Enix says that allows the base game to download with its intended storage requirement. The workaround leaves the selected extras out of the installation.
What to check before reinstalling
The update added Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean language support. The publisher’s notice describes the storage problem and the temporary workaround without giving a technical cause. Players who need the DLC should check the latest Steam announcement for the status of the fix before changing their installation.
