The WoW Forever launch is complete: Blizzard’s updated official launch page now says the game is live. The publisher describes it as a permanent home alongside modern and Classic World of Warcraft, with progression through the original continents to level 60.
Choose a ruleset with your group
Blizzard’s ruleset guide lists Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay PvP. Hardcore is planned for sometime after launch; the guide does not give a firm launch date for that ruleset.
The choice affects who can play together. Blizzard says grouping for dungeons and raids is confined to the same ruleset, and Horde and Alliance grouping remains separate. Players wanting a different ruleset generally need to create a character there.
The first raids arrive December 9
The launch overview lists Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia’s Lair for level-60 players on December 9. It also outlines new zones, dungeons and progression systems. These are Blizzard’s announced plans, not results from our own playtesting.
Our World of Warcraft statistics page covers broader franchise activity and estimates. It should not be treated as an official live count of Forever players or used to compare its launch directly with another version of WoW.
Official gameplay background
Blizzard’s September gameplay trailer shows the project’s premise. Its earlier beta promotion is historical; the current launch page supplies today’s availability information.
