Pokemon Go‘s latest event brings a sleepy surprise – the debut of the Drowsing Pokemon, Komala! This Normal-type critter from Alola is popping up worldwide for the Catching Some Z’s event. But how do you catch this adorable koala-inspired monster? And will its Shiny form be available?
What is Komala?
Komala is known for its perpetual sleepy state. This Pokemon is always clutching a log as it slumbers, even when battling! Komala’s constant napping makes it a bit oblivious to its surroundings, but it can pack a punch with its clawed log when roused.

Where to Find Komala in Pokemon Go
Just like the Shiny Poochyena, catching Komala will appear rarely in the wild during the Catching Some Z’s event from July 15th 10AM to July 16th 8PM local time. Check the Nearby radar and watch for Komala’s shadow while exploring. Using Incense can also help draw out more of these elusive creatures.
Since Komala spawns are limited, be sure to take advantage of the event window. After it ends, we don’t know when trainers will next get to add this cute ‘mon to their roster. Having a stack of Pokeballs and cleared Pokemon storage will boost your Komala catching potential.
Can Komala Be Shiny in Pokemon Go
Unfortunately, Shiny Komala is not available yet. Niantic rarely drops new Shinies alongside Pokemon debuts. Don’t fret – Komala’s metallic sheen will likely arrive in a future event. Patience is key for us Shiny hunters!
No Evolution For This Sleepyhead
Komala does not evolve in Pokemon Go or the main series games. Once caught, you’ll have this standalone snoozer in your Pokedex. Less Candy to spend, more time to relax!
Catching Komala gives travelers a perfect pocket monster pal for lazy summer days. With some luck and perseverance, you’ll soon have this slumbering koala curled up in your collection. Just be careful not to nod off yourself while hunting for one!
Catching Some Z Event
The Catching Some Z’s event in Pokemon Go is being held to celebrate the release of the new Pokemon GO Plus Plus device. The event runs from July 15, 10 am local time to July 16, 8 pm local time. On the same event which brings a pajama-clad Snorlax through special research! But there’s a catch – you need the Pokemon GO Plus + to access these sleepy tasks.
The $54.99 Plus + peripheral unlocks event-exclusive research rewarding a Snorlax wearing a nightcap. To start, pair the device in-game. It lets you automatically spin and catch without glancing at your phone.
Once unlocked, the special research stays available even after the event. So take your time catching that stylish Snorlax!
Beyond rare Komala spawns, expect more sleepy Pokemon like Jigglypuff, Abra, and Mareep. Sporting PJs, Snorlax fits right in!
Shiny hunters rejoice: all featured Pokemon can be Shiny, except the new Komala and Wooloo.
While the Plus Plus isn’t mandatory, it unlocks a Komala and other sleepy pokemon like Snorlax. This party hat-clad beast is perfect for your dream team. So gear up and start your Pokemon slumber party!
